Emma’s Work

Emma Blackwood has had a portfolio career in the arts that has spanned the past 12 years.

Whilst still completing her Fine Art and English Literature degree from Leeds University she was the main (and youngest) exhibitor in York City Art Gallery and subsequently gained her first solo show in York. She went on to achieve a First Class Honours in her degree and undertook many private commissions, most notably a 6’ x 6’ canvas of a male nude featured in Elle Decoration.

The following few years took a different turn seeing her gain a Distinction in her Masters in Theatre Design at Wimbledon School of Art. Her first job as a designer was for The Royal Shakespeare Company and subsequently she designed for The Open Air Theatre at Regent’s Park, Adventures in Motion Pictures at the Old Vic, the opening season for the Soho Theatre and Writer’s Centre and Sam Mendes’ Donmar Warehouse, to name but a few. She was a finalist in the Linbury Prize for Young Theatre Designers in the year 2000 with an exhibition at the National Theatre.

To further hone her artistic skills throughout this period, she took additional training at The Slade School of Fine Art and Chelsea School of Art and 2006 saw Emma dedicate herself solely to her passion for painting. She is now a full-time fine artist based in Canterbury, Kent.
